Caraga State University (CSU) proudly represented the Philippines at an Engineering and Sciences Conference held in Japan this October. This year, CSU achieved a record-breaking participation with 40 oral presentations and 69 poster papers from 59 faculty research presenters, highlighting its growing international research footprint and commitment to advancing global scientific collaboration.
Strengthening Research under Dr. Rolyn Daguilโs Leadership and the Board of BORโs Support
The strong CSU presence at this engineering and science conference aligns with University President Dr. Rolyn C. Daguilโs vision of strengthening CSUโs position as a leading research and innovation university in the Philippines. The Board of Regents, through the leadership of no less than Dr. Shirley Agrupis, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson, recently approved the attendance of 59 faculty researchers to present their research outputs and share their innovations with peers and experts from around the world. This institutional support underscores the universityโs continuing efforts to promote international engagement, scholarly collaboration, and global recognition of CSUโs research excellence.
Leading the CSU delegation were Dr. Jeffrey T. Dellosa, Vice President for Research, Development, and Innovation (VPRDIE), and Dr. Michelle V. Japitana, Vice President for Executive Operations (VPEO). They were joined by key academic and research leaders including: Dr. Jaymer M. Jayoma, Dean of the College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS) and Director of Research; Dr. Junrie B. Matias, Director of Publications and Dean of the Graduate School, and Dr. Elizabeth P. Parac, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Agri-Industries (CAA), and Directors and researchers from various Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) Centers and colleges in CSU.
Expanding CSUโs Global Research Footprint
CSUโs participation in this conference exemplifies its growing role as a global research hub for innovation and sustainability. The presented papers covered a wide range of emerging themes, including:
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for medical imaging, robotics, and sentiment analysis;
- Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Resilience, including plant disease monitoring and watershed management;
- Renewable Energy and Smart Systems, such as IoT-based solar, hydro, and environmental monitoring technologies; and
- Digital Transformation and Data Science Applications for governance, education, and industry.
Through these works, CSU faculty and student researchers demonstrated the universityโs transdisciplinary strength and its readiness to engage in collaborative research addressing real-world challenges.
During the awarding ceremony, two (2) of the delegation were selected among the Best Presenters, namely Ms. Yvonne T. Olayvar from the College of Engineering and Geosciences and Ms. Jenelyn R. Asis from the College of Computing and Information Sciences. They were recognized as 2 of only 7 awardees chosen from more than a hundred authors and presenters.
Driving Innovation and International Recognition
The conference brought together top researchers from Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, and the Philippines, offering CSU scholars the opportunity to present their work, exchange ideas, and explore potential future partnerships with global universities and industries.
