The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) is in collaboration with the College of Agriculture and Agri-Industries - Caraga State University for the conduct of "Stakeholders Consultation Workshop Bridging Alliances for Modern Biotechnology Promotion and Uptake in the Philippines" on October 24, 2024, at the Admin Conference Hall, CSU. The activity was attended by faculty and students from the College, farmers, LGUs, and media personnel. Activity aims to provide platform to gather stakeholders for the exchange of ideas on the biotechnology related issues and challenges, strategies and interventions, and role or contribution of different sectors for the uptake of biotech products in Agusan del Norte. Strategic and Sustainable Management of Abaca Virus Disease in the Caraga region. Key stakeholders, including the PhilFIDA Director and staff, Municipal Agriculturists, Agricultural Technicians, and representatives from the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI), attended the event.

An insightful and collaborative activity, focusing on Research Output Dissemination and Stakeholder Discussions for the Strategic and Sustainable Management of Abaca Virus Disease in the Caraga region. Key stakeholders, including the PhilFIDA Director and staff, Municipal Agriculturists, Agricultural Technicians, and representatives from the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI), attended the event. A productive discussion with speakers Dr. Elizabeth Parac and Engr. Gagula about the latest research findings and explored actionable strategies for controlling the spread of abaca virus disease. The session underscored the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to ensure a sustainable future for abaca farming, which is crucial for many livelihoods in the region. Together, we are dedicated to protecting the abaca industry and supporting Caraga farmers through innovative and science-based disease management practices. We Grow Food, We Sustain Lives

The Department of Plant and Soil Sciences (DPSS) of the College of Agriculture and Agri-Industries- Caraga State University (CSU-CAA) hosted “Agrimmunity 2024: Training on Seedling Production and Nursery Management”on July 30, 2024, at the Organic Agriculture Training Center (OATC). This event demonstrated a strong commitment to addressing vital agricultural needs and advancing sustainable practices within the community.

The college welcomed thirty-one (31) vegetable farmers and barangay council members from ten LGUs in Butuan City, including Barangays Ampayon, Antongalon, Baan, Basag, Los Angeles, Taguibo, Taligaman, Tiniwisan, Obrero, and Sumilihon. Additionally, five BSA-Horticulture students volunteered to help facilitate the training, emphasizing the college’s commitment to involving students in its extension efforts. The program featured insightful sessions by the DPSS faculty on topics such as seedling production, soil media, biofertilizers, and pest management. A key highlight was the introduction of biofertilizer products by Reuben James C. Rollon in his Biochar project funded by the Department of Agriculture- Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR), aimed at promoting organic vegetable farming practices. Attendees also benefited from practical tours at Ka-Agri Farm and the Mycorrhizal Laboratory, gaining hands-on experience in seedling production and biofertilizer application. The college is pleased with the active participation of all involved and hope the distributed materials will be valuable in their agricultural endeavors.
