FEATURED ACTIVITIES

Mineral Resources Management Research and Training Center(MinRes) participated in the 38th Philippine Chemistry Congress

On July 21-25, 2024, the Mineral Resources Management Research and Training Center(MinRes) participated in the 38th Philippine Chemistry Congress (38PCC) and 2024 International Conference on Chemistry (IC2). The team supported research students in preparing presentations. Notable talks featured Academician William G. Padolina on sustainability and population issues, Dr. Mary Garson on marine terpenes, and Prof. Rigoberto Advincula on nanostructured materials. Students showcased both posters and oral presentations. Plenary discussions covered diverse topics like microplastics, fuel cells, screen printed sensors, and AI in chemistry. The event concluded with awards and the announcement of the next congress venue.

On May 27 to June 1, 2024, our project staff, Engr. Gildo, visited MSU-IIT’s Center for Sustainable Polymers Laboratory(CSP) to conduct Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDX). By employing TGA, our project team approximated the grafting efficiency of our methacrylated titanium dioxide samples. Furthermore, utilizing SEM enabled us to view into various morphologies to our treated samples. EDX further confirmed the incorporation of silane to the TiO2 molecule. Our project, headed by Dr. Temmy P. Vales would like to extend his appreciation to the leaders of the CSP : Dr. Lubguban and Dr. Malaluan, and to the following experts who assisted/helped our staff during his visit: Dan Michael Asequia (SEM Expert), Renzo Miguel Hisona (SEM Expert), Jason Jon Joshua Paragua (Laboratory Coordinator) and Roger Dingcong (University Researcher).

Mineral Resources Management Research and Training Center (MinRes) organized a training session focused on recent advancements in nanotechnology and natural products,

On April 19, 2024, the Mineral Resources Management Research and Training Center (MinRes) organized a training session focused on recent advancements in nanotechnology and natural products, in collaboration with the Center for NanoScience and Technology Research and Training Center (CeNTRE) and DKSH Market Expansion Services Philippines Inc. The event commenced with opening remarks from Prof. Henson M. Dejarme, emphasizing the critical role of analytical tools in advancing the university's research objectives. The training featured several speakers. First, Mr. Mark Mangogtong (Sales Supervisor) provided insights into XRF and DLS mechanisms, highlighting how industry leaders employ XRF for elemental analysis, significantly reducing analysis time from hours to minutes compared to traditional methods. Following this, Ms. Christine Ramos (Technical Sales Supervisor) discussed the application of GC-MS for compound analysis in extracts. Subsequently, Ms. Eileen Valerie Cruz (Application Specialist/Account Executive) elaborated on HPLC's operation, emphasizing the separation of components based on their affinity to columns.
